Wombat Will and Bilby Ben’s Rainbow shirts for the Under The Rainbow Party – Learning the colours of the rainbow

I’ve been dying to share photos of this beautiful party! Chris from Christine Humphreys Independent Creata Learning Advisor lives just up the road from us, and has little ones close in age to ours.  We got a beautiful handmade invitation with a rainbow drawn on the back by the birthday girl, requesting us to wear our favourite rainbow colour.  We (or it might have been I) decided to go with the theme and make rainbow T shirts.

We hunted through the bookshelves to find a picture of a rainbow, and I taught Will ROY GBIV to remember the order of the colours. He hunted through the crayons and found all the colours and drew a rainbow. I drew Bens :) Then he cut it all out, and we used his drawing to cut the shapes of felt. I had ironed on some iron-on adhesive paper first. He then peeled off the backing and laid them all out on his shirt. I learned the hard way that you need to cover the felt with a cloth to iron it on! It melted on one side! So we made a cloud to cover that bit. Will drew it, and we used towelling to make it fluffy.

The party was gorgeous! It was outdoors, and there was so much for the kids to do. I love it when their focus is on the activities, and not on the food. I reckon they have far more fun that way! I used to go nuts at parties and come home feeling a bit queasy :) Will however, has already learned to heed the warning signs.  That said, the boys were too busy playing to notice much of the food, but I sure did! There were rainbow homemade biscuits, marshmellows, jelly, popcorn, a fruit rainbow and of couse a stunning rainbow cake! Will loved the coloured ice blocks for the water or lemonade.

They did a scavenger hunt for different colour balloons, blew bubbles, ran around the garden, played pass the parcel, had their faces painted (not Will’s cup of tea yet) and whacked a rainbow pignata. The birthday girl handed out rainbow kaleidoscopes as people left. Such a beautiful rainbow morning!

Thank-you for having us Miss M! and thank-you to your Mum for all her work and rainbow fun! Oh, and Miss M’s gift was a number shirt from the new range of Ballerina Number Tops – not even on the website yet :)
