Wordless Wednesday – Ben’s first back carry

Africa must have worn off on us, where all the little bubs get strapped/wrapped on to their mum’s backs! Here is Ben having his first back carry in the manduca…
Happy not-so-Wordless Wednesday!

Wombat Will and Bilby Ben in Africa

Oh it has been a long time my dear bloggy friends! I haven’t fallen off the planet, I’m just taking a little break to give more time to my boys. When I can, I’ll sneak in a blog post though :)

I looked at the date today and realised that it has been a month since we landed back in Australia from Africa, and it was a good kick to the computer to get this post up! I actually wrote a post on the plane, on the first flight of many, and thought ’I can do this blogging and holidaying thing’…hmmm that was the only post that got written! So this one is just a little summary of our time travelling and seeing our friends and family who we hadn’t seen for years, some of them for as many as ten!

We stopped over for six hours in Singapore on the way and the airport was just amazing. You can even charge your phone, let alone sleep, have a foot massage, walk in a butterfly garden, an orchid and more…all free.

need to charge your phone?

It was so strange to be back in our home town of Harare, Zimbabwe after ten years. So much has changed, some sad, some good. Will show you all the shopping in another post :) It was so heart-warming to see Wombat Will and Bilby Ben spending time with their uncle Ben and aunty Anth and all the family that they had only heard about.

We then headed off to the Kruger National Park in South Africa for a good dose of game viewing. We weren’t disappointed either. Will’s eyes were on stalks for the first few days and then it was back to ‘when can we go for a swim?’  Bren headed off on a couple of the guided night drives, and we watched wildlife docos under the moon and lolled about in the camp swimming pools.

Johannesburg was the next stop where we stayed at a fantastic lodge: Amaqele. Some nights we ate out and some nights we cooked things that we’d spent ages choosing in the supermarkets. I am not a fan of grocery shopping, but when its in another country, its suddenly fun!

We spent Christmas in Cape Town and stayed at another beautiful little spot: Firmount Guest Suites in Somerset West. I had forgotten how picturesque that part of the world is. We carried on playing tourists, and went to the Waterfront, up Table Mountain in a cable car, to the Old Biscuit Mill markets (a definite favourite), to wine estates and shopped some more! Almost everywhere we went there was a whole tribe of us, which made it all the more fun.

Now we are home, and choosing photos for the walls and admiring our shopping (I won’t forget to put that post up!) and Will is asking when he can see his friend Sally and his Uncle Ben and Nigel and Aunty Sue and Anth, Christie, Ell, Tess, Stace and Katie and his friends George, Ayden and Lexi, and all the other special people we spent time with.

It won’t be another 8years before we go back because my brother proposed to his beautiful girlfriend, so there’ll be a wedding that we can’t miss in 2013. Yippee!

It’s also lovely to be home on the glorious Sunshine Coast. This time we stepped off the plane from Africa to friendships we have built over the years and our little spot we call home. Not like 8years ago, when we arrived here with a suitcase, not knowing anyone!

Take care, and more from me soon!
